11 ½, Eugene Lang College’s Literary Journal, is now open for submissions!

Submissions are open to currently enrolled students at Lang College and larger The New School community via our Submittable account.

Submission deadline is October 21, 2022.

FICTION

  • All types and genres of fiction are welcomed. You may submit (but are not limited to) plays, prose, hybrid works, excerpts from longer works, short stories, micro-fiction, and flash fiction. No screenplays.
  • Word limit: 3,500 total or 10 pages double-spaced with 12 pt. font. Please submit only in .doc and Doc.X, (not PDF or Pages).
    • Multiple submissions will be accepted, but the total number of words across submissions must be no more than 3,500.
  • If the submission is in another language, please also include a translation into English.
  • Please only submit previously unpublished work.
  • Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please let us know if it has been accepted elsewhere.
  • Please include a brief bio of no more than 100 words with your submission and your Instagram/Twitter handles.

POETRY

  • Please submit up to 3 poems with a maximum of 8 pages. Please submit your work as a single document in either .docx or .pdf format, using 12 point font.
  • Please only submit previously unpublished work. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please let us know if it has been accepted elsewhere.
  • Please include a brief bio of no more than 100 words with your submission and your Instagram/Twitter handles.

NON-FICTION

  • We’re interested in hearing about New School student experiences. Whether this deals with the school directly and/or politically, or personally through memoiristic writing. We want to see the reality of student life in New York City. We will consider all styles and are open to both academic and creative forms.
  • Word limit: 2,000 total or 8 pages double-spaced with 12 pt. font, with any amount of submissions across this limit as .docx format.
  • Please only submit previously unpublished work. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please let us know if it has been accepted elsewhere.
  • Please include a brief bio of no more than 100 words with your submission and your Instagram/Twitter handles.

ART

  • We are looking for photography, prints, fine art, collage, comic, or any visual art.
  • Please submit up to 5 digital pieces as JPEG only, file size recommendation: 2400 x1600 px. in one file and include a short artist statement (max 200 words) for either the entire submission or for individual pieces within the submission.
  • Please name each artwork and include the medium and the date/year it was made.
  • Please include a brief bio of no more than 100 words with your submission and your Instagram/Twitter handles.
